Meeting Roles and Templates
Another opportunity to practice speaking, other than giving 'manual' speeches, is to perform a role
during the weekly meetings. The various roles are performed by all members, no matter how new to the club.
The Chairperson starts the meeting, welcomes guests, and tells a joke.
The Toastmaster of the meeting facilitates the meeting, introducing
the technicians and each speaker. The Toastmaster is also responsible for creating the meeting's agenda.
The General Evaluator conducts the evaluation portion of the meeting and introduces the speakers' evaluators and the technicians for their reports.
The Grammarian is responsible for listening to all people speaking during the meeting and noting good and poor use of language,
including use of the word of the day. In our club, the Grammarian also serves as the "Ah-Counter."
The Timer tracks the timing of all speeches, table topic responses, and evaluations.
The Laugh Counter listens to all meeting participants and notes when each receives a laugh or chuckle from the audience.
This role is to remind us how important it is to keep a sense of humor when talking.
The Quiz Master listens intently to all participants and formulates three to five questions from the content of anything she/he hears.
At the end of the meeting, the Quiz Master quizzes the audience to see how well everyone else listened during the meeting.
The Table Topics Chairperson facilitates a lively session of Table Topics, which are any topic or question that respondents must reply with a one to two minutes mini-speech!
